What We Look For
We want you to succeed. When you apply, the admissions committee looks at many things in your application, including your academic preparation, GPA, talents and achievements. Requirements for transfer students differ depending on the type of applicant.
To be competitive for admission, we recommend for our transfer applicants earn a 2.6 cumulative college GPA. While GPA is weighed heavily during our application review, we review applications holistically and weigh other factors including your most recent grades and degrees awarded.
TRANSFER STUDENTS WITH 12+ HOURS OF CREDIT
Students who have completed 12+ college credits since high school graduation need only provide their college transcript(s). We will make our admission decision based on the grades submitted at the time you apply. If you apply and have a lower cumulative GPA, but you tell us (in your personal statement) that the courses that you are currently enrolled in should increase your GPA, we may postpone our decision until we have received those final grades.
To be eligible for admission to the College of Charleston, all transfer students must be in good standing at their current institution. Advanced placement (AP, IB, CLEP)/high school dual credit hours earned will not count toward the credit hour ‘count’ for application materials, although they can be considered for credit.
TRANSFER STUDENTS WITH FEWER THAN 12 HOURS OF CREDIT
In addition to meeting the recommended GPA, you must meet the freshman requirements. We’ll consider your college-level GPA, but also look at your high school transcripts to determine your academic preparation. Students who are in their first semester of college (since graduating high school) should submit mid-semester grades from their current semester for evaluation.
READMIT STUDENTS
Readmit students must meet the minimum GPA requirements for transfer students. In addition, if you left the College with less than a 2.0 GPA and are readmitted, you will have to complete the STEP Program. STEP is a one-day workshop that will help you succeed at the College. Visit the STEP website for more information.
Readmit students who previously attended the College as a provisional student – but did not meet the conditions of the program — are required to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at another institution before applying for readmission.
