Kenyatta has over 15 years of experience in education. He previously served as an academic counselor for College of Charleston’s Upward Bound and Pre-College Programs. As a student, he was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Where are you from?

Georgetown, South Carolina

What question do you frequently receive from students while traveling? 

Why should I choose the College of Charleston? Anwers: 1) Georgraphically where the college is located gives students opportunities and exposure to every industry from business to medicine and the arts. 2) Your success in college depends on support and because I am here, I gaurentee that you will be "supported."

What did you study in college?

English (Undergrad), Higher Education (Post-Grad).

What advice do you have for prospective students?

Try something new, step outside of your comfort zone because it exposes you to opportunities you never would have imagined.

What advice do you have for parents of prospective students?

Prepare for college early by making sure your student takes full advantage of every academic program and offering while also particpating in community service. Scholarship money is typically awarded to those students who are sound academically and involved in their community.

What is your favorite Charleston tradition?

Seafood.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

The corner of St. Phillips and George Street because I always have an opportunity to see and engage with students. It allows me to become human and personalable.

What hobby do you wish you had more time for?

Bowling.

What is your favorite place to eat in Charleston?

Fire Street.

What is the best advice you've been given?

"Love who you are. Your strengths and your weaknesses".

What is your favorite off-campus hangout?

The beach.

What celebrity would play you in the movie of your life?

Idris Elba

Do you have pets?

No.

What talent do you have that would surprise your friends?

I write poetry.

What is the best concert you have seen in Charleston?

Maxwell. 

If you could go to college again, what major would you choose?

Something in the medical field. 

What is the last great book that you have read?

The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas.

If you weren't an admissions counselor, what would you be?

A lawyer or high school principal.
