We want you to succeed. So when you apply, the admissions committee looks at many things in your application, including your academic preparation, GPA, talents and achievements. Requirements for transfer students differ depending on the type of applicant.
TRANSFER STUDENTS WITH 24+ HOURS OF CREDIT
Minimum GPA requirements
- 2.6 cumulative GPA for South Carolina residents on all college-level work
- 3.0 cumulative GPA for out-of-state residents on all college-level work
We will make our admission decision based on the grades submitted at the time you apply. If you apply and do not meet our minimum GPA requirements, but tell us (in your personal statement) that the courses that you are currently enrolled in should allow you to earn the minimum GPA, we may postpone our decision until we have received those final grades.
To be eligible for admission to the College of Charleston, all transfer students must be in good standing at their current institution.
TRANSFER STUDENTS WITH FEWER THAN 24 HOURS OF CREDIT
In addition to meeting the minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 (for both SC residents and out-of-state residents), you must meet the freshman requirements. We’ll consider your college-level GPA, but also look at your standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) and your high school transcripts in order to determine your academic preparation.
Readmit students must meet the minimum GPA requirements for transfer students (above). In addition, if you left the College with less than a 2.0 GPA and are readmitted, you will have to complete the STEP Program, a one-day workshop that will help you succeed at the College. Please visit the STEP website for more information.
Readmit students who previously attended the College as a provisional student – but did not meet the conditions of the program — are required to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at another institution before applying for readmission.
