Application Checklist for International Transfer

  1. Application Form: submit the College of Charleston online application
  2. Transcripts, Evaluations and Translations: Please read carefully to determine which application materials you need to submit.
    • If you have 24 or more US college/university credits, submit:
      1. Official college/university transcripts from all US colleges/universities attended, in sealed envelopes.
    • If you have 24 or more international college/university credits, submit:
      1. Official college/university transcripts from all institutions attended.
      2. A course-by-course evaluation report of each transcripts prepared by a Credential Evaluation Agency (fee charged). View a list of approved Credential Evaluation Agencies. Please note it is the responsibility of the applicant to request this evaluation and provide it to the College of Charleston as a part of the admission process in order for transfer credit to be granted.
    • If you have less than 24 credits of college/university course work from the US or abroad, submit:
      1. Official high school transcripts from all schools attended in the original language with the school’s official stamp/seal.
      2. Official college/university transcripts from each institution attended.
      3. A course-by-course evaluation report of all college/university transcripts prepared by a Credential Evaluation Agency (fee charged). View a list of approved Credential Evaluation Agencies. Please note it is the responsibility of the applicant to request this evaluation and provide it to the College of Charleston as a part of the admission process in order for transfer credit to be granted.
      4. If high school transcripts are written in a language other than English, certified, word-for-word English translations of all high school transcript pages must be submitted. 
      5. Official final examination results from the examining boards are required if taken.
  1. Standardized Examination Scores/Proof of English Proficiency:  Submit one of the following directly to the College of Charleston:
    • iBT TOEFL (code: 5113) minimum suggested score of 80
    • IELTS minimum suggested score of 6.5
    • SAT (code: 5113) minimum suggested critical reading score of 500
    • ACT (code: 3846) minimum suggested Reading score of 18 and English score of 20
    • A grade of “C” or better in English Composition 101 and 102(College of Charleston’s equivalent to English 110) from an accredited US college or university.
Standardized exam scores and or completion of English Composition I and Composition II with a “C” letter grade or higher is required of each transfer applicant to the College of Charleston unless applicants have over 24 completed semester credit hours of college/university course work from an US accredited college/university.  Scores and academic records will be used to assess applicant’s scholastic performance and, when necessary, demonstration of English proficiency.
