Application Checklist for International Freshman

  1. Application Form: submit the C of C online application
  2. Official Transcripts: Submit directly to College of Charleston high school transcripts for all years of high school in the original language with the school’s official stamp/seal.
  3. Certified Translations:  If transcripts are written in a language other than English, certified, word-for-word English translations of all transcript pages must be submitted.
  4. Standardized Examination Scores:  Submit scores directly to the College of Charleston from one of the following examination boards:
    • iBT TOEFL (code: 5113) minimum suggested score of 80
    • IELTS minimum suggested score of 6.5
    • iTEP minimum suggested score of 3.8
    • SAT (code: 5113) minimum suggested critical reading score of 500
    • ACT (code: 3846) minimum suggested Reading score of 18 and English score of 20

Standardized exams scores are required of each applicant to the College of Charleston. Scores will be used to assess applicant’s academic performance and, when necessary, demonstration of English proficiency.
  1. Official final examination results from the examining boards are required if taken.
  2. If you have taken a 13th year of secondary education, you must have your courses evaluated for transfer credit. You will need to submit a course-by-course evaluation report prepared by a Credential Evaluation Agency (fee charged). View a list of approved Credential Evaluation Agencies. Please note it is the responsibility of the applicant to request this evaluation and provide it to the College of Charleston as a part of the admission process in order for transfer credit to be granted.

Conditional Admission

College of Charleston offers conditional admission to applicants of all undergraduate programs who are academically eligible but have submitted English Proficiency scores slightly below the requirements for degree seeking admission.

To qualify for conditional admission, a student must demonstrate having earned a minimum score of:

Individuals who submit English Proficiency scores below our minimum requirements will be considered for conditional admission on a case by case basis.

The English Language Institute offers comprehensive English Language training. Please note that if you are admitted conditionally and attend the English Language Institute you will not be able to register for degree seeking course work while attending the College as a conditionally admitted student.
